SERP features

The non-standard elements on a results page, AI Overviews, featured snippets, local packs, image and video packs, that change the click economics of a query.

SERP features are everything on a search results page beyond the plain ten blue links: AI Overviews, featured snippets, People Also Ask, the local pack, image packs, video carousels, shopping results, sitelinks, knowledge panels, and more. Which features appear for a query is itself a strong signal of the query's intent and of how clicks will be distributed, and it should shape whether and how you target the query.

The feature mix changes the value calculation. A query dominated by an AI Overview and a featured snippet may yield few organic clicks even at position one, so the prize is being the cited source, not the ranking. A query with a local pack is a local-SEO play, not a content play. A query with a shopping pack is transactional and merchant-driven. A query with a video carousel rewards a different content format entirely. Reading the feature mix tells you what game you are actually playing.

This is why our keyword and difficulty assessment is grounded in the live SERP feature mix rather than volume alone. Two queries with identical volume can be worth wildly different amounts depending on whether the results page hands the click to an Overview, a competitor's product card, or your organic listing. We classify the SERP feature mix per target query so prioritization reflects real click opportunity, not just demand.
