Wikipedia strategy

The legitimate work of earning a Wikipedia entity through genuine notability and independent coverage, given Wikipedia's outsized weight in AI citations.

A Wikipedia strategy is the deliberate, legitimate pursuit of a Wikipedia entity for a brand, because Wikipedia carries disproportionate weight in how AI engines decide what is true and whom to cite. Independent measurement has placed Wikipedia at a large share of ChatGPT's factual citations, and it is a primary feeder of Google's Knowledge Graph, so a Wikipedia presence is among the strongest entity signals available.

The non-negotiable constraint is that Wikipedia cannot be gamed. Notability is a binary gate enforced by independent editors: a subject qualifies only if it has significant, independent, reliable coverage, and articles must be written from a neutral point of view with cited sources. Paid or promotional editing, undisclosed conflicts of interest, and self-created puff pieces are detected and removed, and can damage the brand's reputation. The only durable path is to actually become notable, then let the encyclopedic standards be met.

So the real strategy is upstream and indirect: earn the independent press coverage and third-party references that establish notability (original research, genuine newsworthiness, editorial mentions), and only then is an article sustainable. Wikidata, with its lower bar, is the practical first step for brands not yet Wikipedia-notable. We flag the absence of Wikipedia and Wikidata entities as an entity-graph gap, and frame the fix as earning notability, never as manipulating the encyclopedia.
