Who AI engines cite on MCA queries

On generic merchant cash advance questions, AI engines lean on comparison and education sites such as Nav, NerdWallet, and the SBA. Funder sites earn citations on specific, well-structured questions.

Ask an AI assistant "what is the best merchant cash advance" and the sources behind the answer are typically comparison and education sites: Nav, NerdWallet and its Fundera brand, Forbes Advisor, and government guidance from the SBA, with a few large funders mentioned by name. The exact mix varies by engine and changes month to month, which is why we measure it per audit rather than publish a fixed ranking.

The reason is structural. Comparison sites publish many offers side by side with consistent fields, dates, and methodology notes, which is exactly what a retrieval system wants when it has to recommend without taking a side. A single funder's site is, by definition, one-sided.

Funder and broker sites break into the cited set on narrower questions where they are the best source: "MCA for HVAC contractors", "how does a reverse consolidation work", "what happens if my sales drop during an MCA". Those pages win when they answer the question directly in an extractable passage, show real numbers with an estimated APR, carry a dated author byline, and sit on a site with a clear Organization entity and verifiable state registrations. Getting listed accurately on the comparison sites themselves is the other half of the strategy. Our audit shows which of these sources each engine uses for your target queries.
