Gemini

Google's family of large language models, which powers the Gemini app and the generation behind Google AI Overviews and AI Mode.

Gemini is Google's multimodal model family. For SEO purposes it shows up in two places that matter: the standalone Gemini app, where users ask questions directly, and inside Google Search, where Gemini composes AI Overviews and the conversational AI Mode. Because the in-Search experiences are grounded in Google's index, the path to visibility in Gemini-powered surfaces runs through conventional ranking, not through a separate optimization track.

The operational consequence is convenient: the same work that earns classic Google rankings, strong content, clean technical SEO, clear entities, helps you appear in Overviews and AI Mode. The standalone Gemini app, when it browses, behaves like the other conversational engines, preferring readable raw HTML and corroborated, well-structured answers.

For a brand, the move is to treat Gemini-in-Search as an extension of Google SEO and the Gemini app as part of the broader AEO surface. Track whether your target queries trigger an Overview, whether you are cited, and whether the Gemini app names you when asked for a recommendation in your category.
