Review velocity

The rate at which a business earns new reviews over time. A steady stream signals an active, trusted business to both Google and customers.

Review velocity is the pace and consistency of new reviews a business receives. It is distinct from total review count and average rating, both of which matter, because a steady flow of recent reviews signals an active, currently-trusted business, while a pile of old reviews with nothing recent suggests a business that may have declined. Google's local systems weigh review signals as part of prominence, and recency is part of that.

Velocity is also a conversion factor independent of ranking. A prospect comparing two businesses trusts the one with recent, frequent, well-responded reviews over the one whose last review is two years old, regardless of who ranks higher. The response rate is part of the picture: businesses that reply to reviews, especially negative ones, signal engagement to both customers and Google, and the reply is an opportunity to add relevant context and keywords naturally.

The healthy practice is a system that earns reviews continuously, asking satisfied customers at the right moment, making it easy, and never gating or incentivizing in ways that violate platform policies. Sudden spikes can look manipulative; steady growth looks real. We track review velocity, recency, distribution across platforms, and response rate, and surface trends rather than a single static count.
