AI Visibility pillar / check organization-name-consistency

Consistent business name

Whether your Organization markup, WebSite markup and site name call the business by one name.

What this check measures

The business names your page declares: Organization and LocalBusiness name, WebSite name and og:site_name, plus the title, main heading, copyright line and logo text when they name the same business. We group names that refer to the same business (ignoring case, punctuation, "&" versus "and", spacing and legal suffixes such as LLC) and check that the declared names form one group, or that a second name is declared as alternateName or legalName.

Why it matters

Bing's guidelines ask for clear and consistent naming for people, organizations, products and locations, and to avoid ambiguous references, because clear entity definition improves grounding and citation accuracy. Google says to use your site name consistently across your home page and to use the same name and alternateName in Organization markup that you use for your site name.

How we score it

Editorial, and never higher than low. Two declared names for what look like different businesses, with no alternateName or legalName tying them together, lowers the AI visibility pillar slightly. A page that declares no name at all is not scored here; the entity check covers adding one.

Confidence-flag rules

HIGH when the names agree. MEDIUM when they differ, because a trade name and a brand name can be legitimately different.

Common mistakes

  • Organization name set to a slogan or a page title.
  • A rebrand that updated the logo and title but not the structured data.
  • Using a short name in WebSite markup with no alternateName for the full name.

How to fix it

Use one business name in Organization name, WebSite name and og:site_name. If the business really has two names, such as a trade name and a legal name, put the second one in alternateName or legalName.

  • · New. A copyright line or logo text that names a different company (often the legal owner) is a note, never a failure.
