MedicalBusiness schema

The schema.org types for a medical practice and its clinicians. They describe specialties, locations, hours, and verifiable providers in a form search and AI systems can read.

schema.org gives medical practices a small family of types. MedicalBusiness is the LocalBusiness subtype for a practice; MedicalClinic and specialty types such as Dentist or Optician narrow it; Physician describes an individual doctor or a physician's practice; and MedicalOrganization supplies properties such as medicalSpecialty, isAcceptingNewPatients, and healthPlanNetworkId. Pick the most specific type that is true, and combine types where that is more accurate.

For each location, mark up name, address, telephone, geo, openingHoursSpecification, medicalSpecialty from schema.org's enumeration (Dermatology, Cardiovascular, and so on), and whether you are accepting new patients. For each clinician, publish a Physician or Person entity with their credentials, the locations they practice at, and sameAs links to their state medical board record, their NPI registry entry, and their hospital affiliation pages. Procedure pages can add MedicalProcedure to describe what is being performed.

Two rules keep this safe. Mark up only what the page visibly states, especially insurance networks, which change often and mislead patients when stale. And there is no rich result for these types in Google, so the payoff is entity understanding and citation eligibility, not a decorated listing. Our audit validates the markup, checks that clinician entities link to verifiable records, and flags drift between markup and page.
