Commercial financing used to be lightly regulated at the state level. That has changed. Since 2022 a growing set of states, including Utah, Virginia, and Texas, require providers or brokers of sales-based financing to register with a state agency, and California and New York require standardized cost disclosures. The list keeps growing, so any page that describes it should carry a last-reviewed date.
A state registration footer lists, for each state where you hold one, the registering agency, the registration or license type, and the number, linked to the state's public lookup where it exists. Where you hold an NMLS ID for any licensed activity, include it. Where a state has no registration requirement, say nothing rather than implying a license you do not hold; overstating licensure is a regulatory problem, not just a marketing one.
The search value follows from the trust value. A business owner, or an AI engine summarizing funders for one, wants evidence that a company is legitimate and operating lawfully in their state. Registration numbers that resolve to state records are about the strongest verifiable signal a finance site can offer, and they help separate real funders from lead-generation sites. Our audit checks for the disclosure and that its links resolve.
